Tuesday, December 4, 2001: CRANE DAY!
The crane showed up around 8:45am on a very warm December morning! Temperatures
were right around 50 degrees and would later climb to 64! The crane from
R.J Jurowski and Sons of Whitehall was rated for 25,000lbs .... this would later
become an important fact ....
The crane pulls in behind the caboose
Today, Kirk's brother Nels Gunderson takes over supervision!
Kirk and John survey the situation
The crane is set ... the boom goes up!
The first attempt at a lift .....
... we realize that the pressure on the cupola is going to crush it, so
I head off to Fleet Farm to buy some sturdy 6x6 beams for bracing.
45 minutes later, the beams are in place ... we're almost ready!
Our crane operator!
We start lifting!
Easy does it ...
Notice the front wheels of the crane!
Nels tightens the tension on the chains on the wrecker holding the crane in place ...
Up, up and away! The caboose is airborne!
