Friday, November 30, 2001: The BIG MOVE! (Page 3)
3:25 PM: The caboose slowly backs down the driveway ....
Next step: positioning the trucks on the rails!
4:00 PM: Now that the trucks are on the tracks, it's time to get the caboose into
position ...
4:55 PM: As the sun sets, the second set of trucks is positioned on the tracks.
By 6:00 PM, we all realized that we were all cold, tired and night had fallen and so
continuing the job that night would be too dangerous ... besides, we weren't sure how we
were going to be able to maneuver the caboose with the wreckers to get it back on its
wheels ... so we decided to gently set the box down on some spare railroad ties and save
the final part of the move for the next day or so. I think we're gonna need a crane!
Even though we didn't quite get it completed in one day ... and even though I
was on pins and needles for about 12 straight hours ... Kirk summed up
the day best: Nothin' got broke and nobody got hurt! It's Miller Time!!!!!
Saturday, December 1, 2001: the day dawns on a caboose in our yard!!
