The RESTORATION!
|
Interior Work
The interior of the 9517 when it was last in service in the 1990s was painted a dull tan color,
which covered an earlier olive green lead-based paint. The original tongue and groove wood
had been covered up some time in the 1960s with thin sheets of plywood ... not only on the
walls, but also on the closet doors and even the desk! I decided it would be too much work to
remove the plywood sheets so I left them. The flooring was covered with a green linoleum,
which had been pretty damaged so I decided to remove it .. except in the cupola.

Lots of patching and touch up before priming!

More touch up and painting ... you can see some of the original olive green ... nice!

Painting: March 2002
March 2002: I decided to go with a light blue for the interior. This shot shows
the first coat of blue over the primer. You can also see the floor with the linoleum removed.

My friend Dave helps out with the painting. Notice the tongue and groove wood still
in the caboose closets.

March 2002: my neighbor Jim is a flooring expert, so helped lay down new laminate flooring ... nice!

Finished Interior: May 2002
May 2002: well ... here's pretty much the finished deal. The back towards the bunkbeds.

The "front" door ... still lots of supplies to pickup!
