Friday, November 30, 2001: The BIG MOVE!
The morning dawned overcast and cool ... with a little freezing mist. I arrived
in Wheeler at 7:30am ... and Kirk and John from I-94 Towing arrive with two
big wreckers around 8am. After surveying the situation, they get the two trucks
in position on either side of the caboose and away we go!
9:28 AM: By now, the entire village of Wheeler has turned up for the event! We
also have plenty of news coverage with the Eau Claire Leader-Telegram and Dunn County News
newspapers ... and WEAU Newscenter 13 and WQOW News 18 from Eau Claire on hand to
cover the story. Read the Leader-Telegram's article HERE.
The caboose starts rising above its trucks ...
... but just before 10:00 AM, the weight shifts and she almost tips over!
John buys me some Pepto Bismol .... I'm gonna need it!

Kirk and John call in another truck .... and around 12 noon, Jason from Badger
towing arrives and we manage to right the caboose. Believe me, my heart is about
to POP! Using all three trucks to shift the caboose, we start the process of rolling the low boy under
the caboose and remove the caboose's trucks (wheels).
